Jonathan MacPhee

Jonathan MacPhee has over twenty years of experience in the design and construction field working on a variety of building types including single family homes, multifamily residential projects, restaurants, corporate, institutional and academic projects. During his twenty year career he has played many different roles including Principal, Project Architect, Landscape Designer, Construction Manager and Project Manager representing the owner.

Born and raised in Massachusetts, Jonathan continues to develop his approach to creating contemporary New England architecture. After receiving a degree in Landscape Architecture from the University of Massachusetts in Amherst, he began working in architecture with several local firms. At Dixon Salo Architects in Worcester, he was involved in projects for Digital Corporation and Fallon Healthcare. With Gorman Richardson Architects, he worked on the design for a large private Estate & Horse Farm in Lincoln, MA and on a variety of projects for EMC Corporation.

After several years working for local firms, Jonathan attended the University of Pennsylvania's Graduate School of Design and received a Masters Degree in Architecture. While at UPenn, he earned several significant awards including the Van Alen Fellowship, the E. Lewis Dales Prize and the Charles Dubose Scholarship. Jonathan was also selected to participate in the 1998 ILAUD Program held in Venice, Italy. Their project focused on the reuse of the Arsenale, a lagoon on the North-East side of Venice which was once the island's naval base.

From UPenn, Jonathan went to work with ARC – Architectural Resources Cambridge, in Harvard Square. He worked on a number of projects ranging in scale and complexity from the ADL Corporate Headquarters located in the Watertown Arsenal, to dormitories for the St. Georges School in Middleton, RI, and the Sanford School of Public Policy at Duke University (their first LEED Certified project).

For the past ten years, Jonathan has been the Principal of J.S. MacPhee Company | Architects in Concord, MA. Recent projects have included major renovations of SBLI's Corporate Headquarters, dormitory and athletic department renovations at Newbury College, and residential projects throughout New England.

Jonathan is a registered Architect in Massachusetts and Maine, NCARB certified, and an accredited LEED AP.

He has been a thesis advisor and guest juror of student work at the Boston Architectural College, Wentworth Institute of Technology, and Northeastern University. For the past three years, he has participated in the Federal Home Loan Bank of Boston's Affordable Housing Design Competition as a design mentor to student teams.
